Some rambling about what was going to be a Young Justice AU RP, but now it'll be something generic DC setting with a lot of YJ base ideas?

Plot and Central cast.

In the initial idea, The Team would be the focus of plot things, but you could app family/friends (NPCs) and Justice League members as extra cast. They would be fairly locked out of main plot for either logic (Jaime's mom is badass, but she is not going on missions) or power level reasons (Superman is not going on covert ops. That would make no sense. And he'd make most of the team redundant).

As the idea is no longer strictly YJ based, I'd be open to plot and mission threads centered around League members, but I would rather center on missions around teen heroes and their antics. League members would serve as panic buttons to rescue their asses from death, but doing so would have IC repercussions.

At least three Justice League members would be NPCs (initially it was lined up to be Batman, Canary, and Tornado). With other League members around to mentor, help out, and be around for things. Initially this would use the League as designed from YJ (with people apping in as new members of the League), but now I think the initial league roster can use backstories from the other DC verses.

Setting and Worldbuilding

When this was a YJ setting, it was post-series, which had a problem because they kinda sorta blew up the main base in S2. Sorry, spoilers, but it happened. So I set-up three replacement bases to match three different styles of RP housing. Well, two and a back-up. Which as this is no longer a YJ setting I plan to keep.

Farmhouse - An underground location in Smallville, KA. Closest in comparison to the Cave as far as bases work. Individual rooms are just rooms with a shared living space. Meant for heroes not passing as human/too young to live on their own. This was the primary base, but most people commute in instead of live there.

Dorms - An apartment building in Star City. This is set up with individual apartments with small kitchens and more autonomy for the residents. For orphaned kids and the older kids at odds with their parents. It has a small prep room for stowing gear, but otherwise it isn't meant for heroics.

Some non-hero kids can be placed here if they know but do not have a home to go to.

Labs - A warehouse in Central City, meant as a back-up rallypoint if something happens to compromise the Farmhouse. It has a barracks and other amenities for surviving, but not really a livable space. A few anti-social types might take up residence there if they are used to spartan.

Plot formatting and AC

So the format for the game is Costumed Comm, Civilian Comm, and Mission Comm. Mission comm stuff is forward dated with a mission thread starting one month to six weeks before the IC date so that when it happens in game fallout is immediately known. Events from plot influence the direction of the game. So certain mission threads tie into one or more plot, but usually not whatever the next mission thread is. To that end, you can't be in more than one ongong mission thread at a time in case fallout from your first mission impacts the availability.

AC is done with each character you hold in the game adding to your total AC requirements, but not needing to be done with that character each AC. As there will be plot reasons for certain secondary characters to be taken out of rotation, and if you pick a big IC concequence your hero might be on the shelf making them difficult to tag in with, so:
A Justice League level hero requires 1 thread with five comments from you per AC round.
A Team level hero requires 2 threads with five comments from you per AC round.
A Civilian or Villain character requires five more comments from you per AC round.

Meaning if you play Superman, Batman, Kid Flash, Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane you need 4 threads, and at least 30 comments over the month. But sometimes that can be a little of everyone, and othere times you can rely Kid Flash being a social butterfly hitting on every lady in sight.

This is because sometimes Lois Lane is out reporting on things, and not being dangled from airplanes. She has a day job. Luthor too, he has to keep his company running in between bids at world power. I had a hard limit on how many characters of each type you could hold, but I am waffling on the numbers if Justice League members get to do more. I'm also not sure how to handle disputes if someone wants to app in while another character is playing but at a lower AC need. To prevent squatting on characters. Not as big for canon DC characters, more about AU characters. Speaking of...

AU parameters

As this is an AU game, I kinda like the idea of at least a skeleton for how AUing is looked at. I'm of the less is more camp. That the least edits to a character you have to do, the better the AU is. Especially if it leads to hard rules about who can be of the Bruce Wayne school of superhero backstories. As characters having fallout with family because of superheroics is one thing, but only so many people need to have dead parents.

I mean most modern setting teen characters should just be fine without a lot of wiggling. Fantasy settings need a bit more work, but can still be done with limited AUing.

Comments, crits, ideas to offer

Hit me up, I do wanna make this a thing.

Edit:

Specific Things for the Apps

AU History: How AU is it, is it a little AU, is it a lot, are you tying history things in with someone else's app or backstory (and if you are a note from them on how this influences their app or characters).
Canon Personality: Actual goddamn personality. Based on canon.
AU Notes: Most of the notes will be changes to fit the setting, but they should be to state that certain aspects of their canon personality will dull when they are civilian or super. So what personality traits from canon are them, and what is a 'mask.' This allows characters who might not fit into the setting to be a bit more functional.

Of course not everyone will have such a separation, it isn't required. If your character is not maintaining a civilian life then explain why they picked that since this is not Marvel where everyone tells everyone their business. And include any significant changes from their canon self and why.
Speciality: Seven Keywords on what your character's skills and talents might lean toward. This is to help decide which missions are right for which character. I'll get into that in a moment.

*A moment.*

Missions

Missions are when Batman (or another hero, or a PC, or anyone with a good intention has a thing that needs doing and calls on the player characters to do it. Mission choice is merit based so while there is a level of first come first serve (with other factors), it'll go to characters who fit the mission parameters over people who wanna go because of boredom and fun.

Naturally a low turnout will let whoever signs up go.

Some Missions might have a prerequesit to signing up, the example from Young Justice is if you're going to face Queen Bee, ladies are a must. Occasionally someone will be required to have in depth knowledge of flying space ships for someone on board. Naturally if you're robbing a vault you need appropriate stealth skills, etc. As these are missions planned out in advanced the level of civilian involvement will be minimal (unless planned as a part of the mission or as part of the 'unforseen things that screw up a mission'). Sometimes you end up in a mission and Lois Lane is being an intrepid reporter while you are doing bad things, other times Lois was doing her intrepid reporter thing and is waiting for Superman to rescue her.

Events

The other side is unplanned missions, Events are a 'come as you are' affair. When I run an event I'll list four locations (maybe more) at least one of those locations something bad will happen. Sometimes all of the locations, you never know! I'm tricky that way. Once sign-up period is done and the Event starts you'll find out which was a dummy location. Unlike Missions, civilian characters can TOTALLY be in the wrong place at the wrong time to get your damsel on! Without needing pre-approval like the Lois Lane Intrepid Reporter examples of the previous paragraph. Although on occasion certain Justice League level powers will be casually requested off site so that things can go to hell.

If the count of heroes feels low, a rescue side might be added to allow heroes outside to enter into the scene, usually 3-4 people who would be 'in the neighborhood.' And picked out of people who didn't sign characters up to be elsewhere. (If you play Larry, Moe, and Curly, and signed Larry up for a dud location, you can put Moe or Curly into action as a rescuer. But if you put Larry, Moe, and Curly in on dud locations you're out. Sorta to help limit how many people blitz all four locations.)

Events are a first come first serve basis. Merit isn't needed, and it's on you to come up with the explanation for why your character is wherever the hell they are. Although school field trips are a socially universally accepted answer. As is volunteering to spend time with nuns at museums. As Merit isn't needed, these are a great way to have a character under-prepared and realize they need to focus a bit more. If that's how you wanna play.
