Alright, for those wondering what this is, I'm doing a quick process of elimination for who is the most likely to end up with Negi at the end of the series Negima. For those of you that don't care, by all means leave my journal. Those of you that care, but are not totally caught up on the manga... thar be spoilers ahead. For those of you who are diehard Negi/Asuna shippers... sorry.

Off the bat, we can remove a few from the list. Two namely: Evangeline and Chao. Evangeline is a 500 year old evil Vampire who has no actual romantic interest in Negi, vampire lore also doesn't allow for children, and if we believe Chao that is required. Chao herself is eliminated by not being her own grandmother. That'd be weird even for Akamatsu standards. Sayo can be removed similarly barring her suddenly being revived, as ghosts also do not have kids.
For those wondering why I didn't remove Chachamaru, that comes later.
Now then, we got all these characters, we can thin some out for motivational reasons. Kazumi, Akira, Konoka, Haruna, Setsuna, Mana, Kaede, Chizuru, Satomi, Chisame, Natsumi, and Satsuki all have another person or idea that draws them away from any interest in Negi. Those that are career minded (Kazumi, Haruna, Mana, Kaede, Satomi, and Satsuki) have a drive in their life superior to that of any interest in Negi. Most show minimal romantic interest but a great deal of emotional care for him. Konoka, Setsuna, and Natsumi have a person they are already interested in, and no need to go after Negi. The last three (Akira, Chizuru and Chisame), take a familial role with Negi (or in the case of Akira, those that like Negi). As stated, Akira acts like an older sister mostly to the sports girls (removing interest in Negi), Chizuru is motherly to EVERYONE, and Chisame has been inadvertently cast as Negi's wise older sister (who looks like Negi's snarky younger sister).
Still a pretty long list. I suppose I should remove the cast that hasn't been given enough screen time to warrant consideration. Probably should have done that earlier, but there are still a hundred or so chapters to go. They could make a comeback. Until then Misa, Misora, Madoka, Sakurako, Fuuka, Fumika, and Zazie can step out now. While I'm at it let's take Class Rep out of the list too, her crazy love is hardly one to be taken seriously, add in that Negi will eventually grow up and she's all about the Shota. (Okay mostly I am keeping the list even numbered)
Eight is a pretty low number considering our start point. However we can trim this down too. Yuuna's interest is inferred, not shown, making her less likely. Chachamaru is a doll, and unless she gets some very impressive upgrades, children is right out. Now I've left her in since I removed the other breeding challenged cast because there is a bit of her story basically being her becoming human, so you never know. Until that little hurdle is jumped. Let's have her step out. Kuu-roshi's little lampshade about her having some likeness to Chao sealed her fate, it is obvious and Akamatsu brought it up, she's out. Last let's look at ASUNA.
Asuna has been kidnapped for like 50 chapters, nobody noticed. There was no 'true love sees all' moment, while she is the damsel in need of Negi's rescue, it's a little late for it to be a romantic rescue despite the shiptease of him dancing with Falsuna at the dance. There's also the little thing that she might be his aunt (we don't know if the third Imperial Princess is actually a sibling to the Queen of Calamity, they could technically be cousins instead of direct blood relatives, or half sisters). However whatever the case a direct blood relation makes for squick, goodbye Asuna.
Now then, these four are my picks to win putting them in order of likelyhood (from what I've read):
1. Ayase Yue
2. Izumi Ako
3. Miyazaki Nodoka
4. Sasaki Makie
Makie's involvement has been since nearly the start. She was in Library Island, helped him train after Kyoto, helped Chisame during Mahora's fair, and she was in Magic World. To add, she started to learn magic in Magic World. However, she's been out of the limelight for a while during MW and has yet to do something as useful as the other three. I leave her in as an option, but she's the outside bet of the four.
Nodoka's story is one of devotion. She loves Negi and he's the only boy for her. She's been around since the VERY START needing his rescue in the first chapter. She was almost his first partner, she was involved in Library Island, Kyoto, Demon Arc, Mahora's Fair, and MW. She's also always been useful due to her artifact, and recently WEAPONIZED its use. However, drawing from the Anime a little, her devotion to Negi might be out of fear. Fear of meeting a boy she really likes. Since Negi is a safe choice. Too young to make a move, too gentlemanly to do anything perverted (on purpose). Her crush on a teacher might be along the lines as Asuna and Takahata. She's in the running, but even at top rank of Love Negi list, she's not the bet I'd make.
Ako fell in love with "Nagi" where Nagi is Negi all growed up. Meaning there are no odd Shota complex issues attached. She, without powers, artifact, or anything stood up for Negi where it was needed. The growth between the two of them is also more standard romantic fluff. It looks very good. She'd not even be ranked so high if she stopped caring for "Nagi" when she discovered his real identity. However she still is interested in him, and that cross for love I think is enough to give her spot number 2. I will note: 2 and 3 here are not that far separated, I should have called it a tie, but I didn't.
Ako and Nodoka are really good picks, but I gotta say number 1 is Yue. Now, those that know I play Yue at trans_9, I've talked this over with other Negima fans. Most people AGREE that Yue's got it going on for being female lead. Here's the build-up. Yue has been around since the start, with the exception of Evangeline arc she had a play in every storyarc. Only Nodoka and Asuna have had similar levels of involvement. Her romance was the slowest build, revealed to the readers in Mahora Fair, Negi is still in the dark. Her decisions have been about Negi's happiness, not her own (although she does note her own happiness being a side-effect). A quality I might add Ako has shown as well, hence the high score for her too. GOT HER OWN MINI-ARC, which is part of the biggest reason: she's a character that can stand on her own.
Most of the girls that show interest in Negi, aren't interesting without Negi. Most of the girls that are interesting without Negi, don't have any desire to go after Negi. Yue's growth to where she is now, Badass Mage Knight Valkyrie kicking ass and taking names, has some ties to Negi, but it was mostly a choice she made for herself. She wanted to be this, not just to help Negi, but to give herself meaning. All around she's got what is needed to make an interesting leading female.
Yeah... that's really all I got to say here, hey look I used my LJ for something. Imagine that. *poof*
